The chosen supplier for the underfloor heating also designed the zone plans for the pipes layout for each area: downstairs rooms (nave), across both transepts, the eventual kitchen and utility rooms. The first task was to lay 5" solid foam insulation sheets on top of the base concrete floor. On top of this a plastic eggbox type membrane was placed, on to which plastic water pipes were laid out and clipped according to the design by the supplier. The pump, return and manifolds were connected and set so that they will eventually be underneath the stairs, in a cupboard. The system was tested by filling the pipes with water, and using a compressor set to 100psi, it was left overnight and found to have held the pressure perfectly. A contractor pumped in screed concrete, which had to be left for 3 weeks, for all the moisture to dry, before the slate floor could be laid.
Rust multicoloured calibrated riven slate tiles were used on the floor, with a dark grey floor grout, with the nave area covering 72sq metres.
Outstanding effort! Hello from a fellow Texan (living in GA). what fluid are you going to run through the pipes and how are you going to heat it? If water, can you drain the system if you lose power?
Is this the downstairs living area? Where did the bedrooms go that you had built in?
WOW! Great job Rob! Things are moving right along and I am so happy for you! You will be all snuggled up in your completed home before you know it, sitting on your couch with a roaring fire burning in the fireplace, reading a book while smoking a pipe...even if it's just for show! LOL! I love the updated pics! Keep them coming and take care of yourself!
Absolutely amazing! I love the slate flooring as well ❣️
