TheFeature Fireplace and a New Doorway

Arnsheen

In June 2020 the first of two new architectural features was added to the building. This was a doorway opening from the first floor in the tower, into what is will be the Master bedroom. The second was the large fireplace on what used to be the pulpit and altar end wall of the nave. The other side of this wall will eventually be a main inner wall of the kitchen.

Unloading the cut granter from the pickup truck

A concrete base 8" deep was prepared,

ready to set the granite hearth on to the concrete base

\

The opening that was made for plant to gain access inside the building was first filled in to add support to the main wall and then supports were used to hold up the building end wall whilst the fireplace cavity was knocked through.

rear wall of fireplace blocked in with 4 holes for water pipes going in and out of the multi fuel stove

using recycled bricks from underneath the original floor in the nave, a herringbone pattern was laid out for the masons to set into the back and sides of the fireplace

finished!
